AutoCAD tip
Save .dwg without student educational license stamp:
- Open .dwg in licensed version of AutoCAD.
- Type 'dxfout' - this will export the .dwg as .dxf file which doesnt have the stamp.
- Type 'dxfin' - this will import the dxf which doesnt have the stamp.
- Save as .dwg

Concept vs. Pragmatic
Concept...
Pro's
-personal interpretation (undeniable)
-eye candy
Neg's
-can be too literal. (Seeing it once, seen it all). Must develop beyond recognition.
-program relationships more difficult to work as it comes last.
Pragmatic
Pro's
-programme relationships actually work
Neg's
-boring
Same master, different interpretation
Neighbours share the same master plan but differ greatly in elevation with some crafty detailing.

Beauty constantly surrounding us
TED talk
Fabian Oefner - psychedelic science
"Remind us of the beauty that surrounds us every day".
Science communicates through rationality.
Art communicates through emotion.
Our brief was regeneration of a deprived area. Initially my thoughts focused on the negativity...
...Stoke on Trent is terrible. Ugly. Poor. Deprived. Inward thinking. Stuck. Inactive. Dormant.
Let's think about nurturing the goodness that is already there.
In fact. Stoke is a beautiful city. Leisurely strolls along the canals that weave in and out of the neighboring towns. The exciting and passionate history of the pottery business 20 years ago kept with pride in people's back gardens. The cheerful and friendly people you meet along the way around the city. It's historically and culturally rich.
But every town has it's problems/worries/issues. It still ranks low on money per household, numeracy and literacy levels. When crafting pottery is the cities life then dependency will cause a black hole when the craft is no longer required...or when someone can do it cheaper elsewhere.
There is a new generation who will need to support their previous generation. A creative generation just like their previous.
A space to transfer/exchange/share creative knowledge to an aspiring generation who can adapt and change with new technology. In the hope to grow and nurture new business to fill in the growing 20 year old black hole the lost pottery business created. But why stop there? Let's setup a place where an adaptable and multi skilled workforce can give each other a helping hand when times get tough.

Designing to build in 30 years.
WOW WOW!
I know what wows me is the future. It's the crazy ideas of what the spaces we live in could be like. It's definitely not what I'm experiencing in the spaces I find myself walking through now. I wonder what it looks like for someone who had their 20's in the 80's...
I want to walk through the spaces that will be around in 30 years time. Wow. Imagine that.
Above is pernilla and asif 'the cloud'. It creates a cloud roof. These are also the guys that did the coca cola beat box at London 2012 Olympics.
Maybe the cloud is only an installation for now. But in 30 years time. Where does technology take us? Look what ETFE allowed pernilla & asif to create. Where will Graphene take us?
I know when I have an out of nebula thought in my architectural education again, it might not be so ridiculous after all. Keep. Mind. Open.
